The Missing Link To Health + Wellness And Your Success
Everybody knows that to address the majority of health issues we need to increase daily activity levels and watch what we eat..
There is an abundance of research suggesting the negative impact of a sedentary lifestyle and highlighting the sharp rise in obesity over the past few decades. But why does it take until we’re in our late 50’s or early 60’s or a traumatic event to occur before taking action? While it is great to get started, why wait until this age or event to happen? How many times have you started a new program but given up after a few weeks? What’s the missing link?
Over the past couple of weeks, since beginning the 8-week transformation with 5 guys, I believe I have found the answer!!!
HAVING A COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT SYSTEM IN PLACE
The 5 guys are strangers, based around the world and all understand the importance of looking after themselves. They all share a similar goal in improving their lifestyle, long-term health, and developing positive habits while shedding a few pounds along the way.
The impact of joining a community for them has been huge right from the start, especially for one guy in particular.
He came home from a long day at work and just before sitting down for dinner checked the Lawless Health app to prepare for the scheduled workout.
It turned out that the other 4 gents had already checked in and completed their workouts, he saw this, turned to his wife, and mentioned he had to get a move on.
It resulted in him scoffing his dinner and running down to his gym in the basement.
I don’t necessarily recommend eating your meal fast and then going straight to workout but the moral of the story highlights what the added motivation and accountability of being part of a community can have on your success!!
Another story, with a similar positive impact, is from a group of Ultimate Frisbee players I am working with.
One of the gents has been struggling with motivation to complete home-based workouts (gyms are shut down due to the pandemic restrictions), so I suggested he drop a message to the team chat.
The support and messages within the group were unbelievable and not only provided him with the motivation but showed that many of them were in a similar situation.
They were able to share ideas on how to overcome the challenges, which resulted in a couple of different competitions being set, resulting in a positive impact for everyone!
These two stories highlight what a community can do to help you on your road to improving your physical and mental health!
The results of being part of a community are shown throughout the world! Crossfit is a great example of this!
What they have been able to achieve through developing their community and made a dramatic impact on increasing people activity levels, improve general health and provide the opportunity for people to belong to something.
Lululemon Athletica is another example where their vision is based on developing a community of people through sweat, growth, and connection.
Taking action is the first step and the best advice I can give is to join a community that best supports you and your needs! If there isn’t one, start one, with over 7 billion on this planet and the accessibility of connection, what is stopping you from finding 5-10 like-minded people?
